Ross Blacklock, DT, TCU
With the trade of Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner this offseason, the Niners will surely draft an interior lineman to help mitigate that loss. It will be no easy task finding an adequate replacement, but TCU’s Ross Blacklock has a lot of scouts excited about what he can do at the next level.
While he played primarily as a two-gap lineman at TCU, his skill set should be able to transfer well to an even front. The Niners employ a 4-3 base defense, with Arik Armstead manning left defensive tackle position.
Blacklock would be a day one starter on this defense if he is chosen by them. His physical talents are through the roof, making his ceiling in the NFL very high. He still struggles a bit with the mental side of the game when it comes to reading his keys, but that’s something that can be taught by a coaching staff.
Blacklock would be an ideal fit in the 49ers defensive scheme and would help mitigate the loss of Buckner tremendously.
