3 intriguing free agents the Bears should target

The Chicago Bears have suffered through a very disappointing season in 2020. After entering the season hoping to make a push back into the playoffs, the team is just 6-7 so far this season through Week 14. That was not the kind of year that the franchise was hoping for.

Matt Nagy has had a rough showing this year and could be on the hot seat. He benched quarterback Mitchell Trubisky early in the year and replaced him with Nick Foles. Well, that didn’t work out well, as Foles didn’t look good either.

Changes are going to be needed this offseason for the Bears. That could very well start with the head coach.

Looking ahead at the upcoming NFL offseason, the Bears are going to have quite a few avenues to improve their roster. Ryan Pace could look to free agency or the NFL Draft for more talent.

All of that being said, let’s take a look at three intriguing free agents the Bears should target.

Allen Robinson III, Wide Receiver, Chicago Bears

Keeping one of their own should be the main priority for the Bears. Robinson is set to hit free agency this offseason and is one of the most underrated wide receivers in the game.

So far this season, Robinson has caught 86 passes for 1,027 yards and six touchdowns. He has put those numbers up in just 13 games. Robinson has also had to deal with poor quarterback play, which is impressive to see the numbers while dealing with that.

Chicago has to find a way to keep Robinson. Their offense has already struggled with him and would struggle even more if he left town.

Jameis Winston, Quarterback, New Orleans Saints

Next up, the Bears will need to look for an upgrade at the quarterback position. Some believe that Cam Newton would be a reasonable target, but Jameis Winston might be the better choice. Even though there are concerns about turnovers, Winston has an impressive arm.

Back in 2019 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Winston ended up completing 60.7 percent of his pass attempts for 5,109 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions. Those interception numbers are crazy, but the rest of the stat line is impressive.

Winston has had a full year working with Drew Brees in New Orleans. He is worth taking a risk on. Chicago wouldn’t have to break the bank to sign him and he could end up being a great upgrade for the Bears.

Xavier Rhodes, Cornerback, Indianapolis Colts

Finally, the Bears could take a look at improving on the defensive side of the ball. They could use some help in the secondary. A cornerback like Xavier Rhodes could make a lot of sense for them.

Rhodes has had a bounce-back season with the Colts this year. He has racked up 27 total tackles to go along with two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and 11 defended passes. Those numbers should make quite a few teams have interest in signing him.

Once again, the Bears would not have to spend a ton of money to get this move done. Rhodes would be a quality addition and would make a very positive impact on the Chicago defense.
