3 intriguing options for the Falcons at No. 4 in the 2021 NFL Draft

The 2021 NFL Draft is stacked with talent, especially at the quarterback position. There are players that can completely change the course of a franchise. One team that needs to ace this draft is the Atlanta Falcons.

Over the last couple of years, the Falcons have slowly fallen off from being a contender in the NFC. Matt Ryan and Julio Jones aren’t getting younger and many thought they would test the trade waters for both of them this offseason. In the NFL Draft, the Falcons need to be looking at the long-term picture.

Looking at the current needs for the Falcons, there are a few that stand out the most. They could use some help on the edge, a tight end, a linebacker, improvements on the offensive line, and they could look at a quarterback.

All of that being said, let’s dive in and take a look at three intriguing options for the Falcons with the No. 4 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

3. Penei Sewell, Offensive Tackle, Oregon

If the Falcons decide that they want to bring in a cornerstone for their offensive line, Penei Sewell would be an ideal fit. He has the potential to become one of the top tackles in the NFL very quickly.

Granted, this would not be the sexy pick for the Falcons. No one would be jumping up and down with the selection, but it could be exactly what their offense needs. Keeping Ryan protected is a major priority and Sewell would be able to help accomplish that goal.

2. Kyle Pitts, Tight End, Florida

We have already mentioned that the tight end position could be a major need the Falcons focus on in the 2021 NFL Draft. Kyle Pitts has true superstar potential and would be a very good pick at No. 4. They may choose to go a different route, but fans should be very happy if this pick happens.

Pitts put together a solid 2020 campaign with the Gators. He caught 43 passes for 770 yards and 12 touchdowns. Standing in at 6-foot-6 and just under 250 pounds, there is no question that Pitts will be a matchup nightmare in the NFL.

This is without a doubt one of the best routes the Falcons could choose to go at No. 4 overall. Pitts would be a major game-changer for Atlanta.

1. Justin Fields, Quarterback, Ohio State

Finally, there is a very good chance that the Falcons could consider taking their quarterback of the future with the No. 4 overall pick. Justin Fields is a name to keep a very close eye on with this selection.

Fields has been connected to the Falcons quite often in mock drafts. Many believe that he will end up being the pick. It certainly would make sense if Atlanta is open to moving on from Matt Ryan in the near future.

During the 2020 season with the Buckeyes, Fields completed 70.2 percent of his passes for 2,100 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Back in 2019, he racked up 3,273 yards, 41 touchdowns, and just three picks. Fields has big-time potential and a big arm and the Falcons should strongly consider making him their pick.
