Davon Hamilton, DT, Ohio State
Following the departure of starting defensive tackle Maliek Collins, looking to add a talented prospect at this position makes plenty of sense. One option that could be realistically available for the Cowboys in the third round is Davon Hamilton out of Ohio State.
The former Buckeye is coming off a 2019 season with totals of 28 combined tackles (9.5 for loss), 6.0 sacks, and 1.0 fumble recovery. He isn’t considered as being one of the elite defensive line prospects in this year’s class, but he has more than enough reason for intrigue.
Hamilton measured in at 6-feet, 4-inches and 320 pounds with 33″ arms and 9 3/4″ hands. At the NFL Scouting Combine, he recorded a 5.14 unofficial 40-yard dash, a 7.72 three-cone drill, 33 reps on bench press, a 29.5″ vertical jump, and a 102.0″ broad jump.
The expectation surrounding Hamilton is that he can step in from day one at least as a rotational interior defensive lineman with the potential to become a starter. He will need the team that drafts him to help fine-tune his technique as a pass-rusher. It seems quite possible to achieve if there is patience.
