3 logical late free agency fits for free agent QB Cam Newton

Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

New England Patriots

Ever since Newton was released by the Panthers, his name has been linked to the New England Patriots. With Tom Brady no longer under center in New England, the Patriots believe Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer will be enough to replace Brady in 2020.

Despite Newton being an obvious upgrade over their current situation, the Patriots haven’t expressed any interest in signing the All-Pro quarterback. However, their lack of interest could be due to the inability to conduct a proper physical during the unusual circumstances of this offseason.

Maybe once teams are able to return to a bit more normalcy, New England could kick the tires on Newton. Among all of the teams in the NFL, the Patriots would give Newton one of the clearest shots to being a starting quarterback next season.
