3 perfect options for the Patriots at No. 23 overall in the NFL Draft

Cesar Ruiz

Some people may not know, but the Patriots do have other notable free agents that aren’t named Brady. On the defensive side of the ball, New England could lose Devin McCourty, Kyle Van Noy, and Jamie Collins.

For the offense, besides Brady, Joe Thuney is the marquee player that is set to hit the open market on March 18. Thuney has been the starting left guard for the Patriots for the past four seasons.

As much as the Patriots would like to bring him back, Thuney could price himself out of New England. In the event that he signs elsewhere, interior offensive line becomes a necessity for the Patriots.

During the week of the NFL Combine, Cesar Ruiz out of Michigan proved that he’s the best interior offensive lineman in this year’s draft. With that in mind, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if Ruiz is taken by New England with the 23rd overall pick.

While at Michigan, Ruiz played a majority of his games at the center position, with a few of them coming at guard. The versatility that Ruiz brings to an offensive line could be much-needed for the Patriots next season.
