3 perfect targets at safety for the Chicago Bears this offseason

3. Clayton Geathers

It’s important to note again that the Bears aren’t going to have much money available in free agency. Therefore, if they want to sign Clinton-Dix’s replacement, they’ll have to consider options that aren’t expensive.

In light of that, Clayton Geathers would be a decent addition to Chicago’s secondary. Geathers has been with the Indianapolis Colts since 2015 and has been one of their starting safeties over the past two seasons.

Altogether, Geathers has contributed 137 tackles, four deflections, one interception, and a forced fumble in his two seasons as a starter. Also, Geathers has experience with Chuck Pagano—Chicago’s defensive coordinator—when Pagano was the head coach of the Colts.

Without a doubt, Geathers isn’t the flashiest choice at safety in free agency. But Geathers is familiar with Pagano’s defense and would be a sufficient fit with Eddie Jackson.
