3 Players The Broncos Could Trade Before 2023 NFL Season

The Denver Broncos made a major move this offseason, acquiring Sean Payton from the New Orleans Saints to become their next head coach. With Payton in the fold, it would put the roster spot of some players in peril as he would like to keep guys of his own.

Over at Predominantly Orange of FanSided, Travis Wakeman has highlighted three Broncos players who could be on the move ahead of cut-down day as a result. But, instead of releasing these players, Denver could look to get some value in return for them in a trade.

The first player that was mentioned is wide receiver Montrell Williams. A fifth-round pick of the Broncos last season, Williams is facing an uphill battle to retain a roster spot in his second season.

Marquez Callaway, who played under Payton with the Saints, was signed in free agency. The Broncos also used a second-round pick on Marvin Mims Jr. Both seem like locks along with Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton, leaving little wiggle room for Williams. His kick-returning skills could be what keeps him in Denver, but the odds are stacked against him.

Next on the list is tight end Albert Okwuegbunam. His physical traits are certainly tantalizing, but the current coaching regime doesn’t seem to be as interested in developing him as the previous ones.

Another former Saint, Adam Trautman was added to the depth chart this offseason. Greg Dulcich looks to be the starter and Chris Manhertz is coveted for his blocking ability. Undrafted rookie Nate Adkins has played well enough to earn a practice squad spot, at the very least, leaving Albert O. as a clear candidate to be moved.

Last but not least is running back Tyler Badie. With Javonte Williams looking ready to assume his role as the starter in the backfield, his chances of sticking around beyond training camp have taken a major hit.

Samaje Perine was signed in free agency and will be a lock for the roster as the third-down back. Undrafted rookie Jaleel McLaughlin has played well enough to warrant a roster spot this offseason. He has likely surpassed Badie on the pecking order.
