3 players the New Orleans Saints should try to trade for this offseason

1. Darius Slay

There is a solid foundation already in place for the Saints’ cornerback corps with Marshon Lattimore on the outside and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson in the slot. There is a need to upgrade at the other outside cornerback spot that Eli Apple filled during the 2019 season.

Managing to solidify both outside corner spots while having an effective option in the slot would make the Saints a tough defense to stop. It would make reinforcing the rest of the defense simpler since their pass coverage would be quite strong.

The Saints would need to give up premier draft capital in order to land Slay. However, they could net a draft selection in the event Taysom Hill were to depart for a new team after a tender is placed on him. It could help alleviate some of the burden faced by giving up picks for Slay.

Slay is already set to earn hold a $13.4 million cap hit for the 2020 season but he is seeking a new contract extension. It’s worth noting, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis is known for his creativity with maneuvering the salary cap and this could be an advantageous circumstance for him.
