Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Kansas City Chiefs
After Damien Williams had an outstanding postseason run en route to a Super Bowl championship for the Kansas City Chiefs, the organization still spent their first round pick on a running back.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire out of LSU may not fill a huge need for this team, but he was arguably the best player available when they selected him, and he’s a perfect fit in Andy Reid’s offense.
Reid’s version of the west coast offense relies heavily on backs catching balls out of the backfield. But, with the number of weapons the Chiefs have across the board, throwing the ball to the running back hasn’t been a priority for the past few seasons. That’ll likely change with Edwards-Helaire in the fold.
Last season at LSU, Edwards-Helaire totaled 55 receptions for 453 yards and one touchdown. Williams posted a career high in catches last season with 30, but he’s clearly better utilized as a pure between the tackles back.
Reid will love having a guy like Edwards-Helaire at his disposal in 2020.
