3 potential cornerback options for the 49ers in free agency

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

1. Brian Poole

Similarly to Cockrell, Brian Poole isn’t going to be a flashy name that is testing free agency. Of course, the 49ers would love to add a big name to the secondary that is a proven star in the NFL.

But with barely any wiggle room in terms of cap space, the 49ers need to use their money wisely. Poole makes for a great low-cost cornerback that could pay dividends immediately.

The former first-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons compiled a respectable season with the New York Jets in 2019. In his 14 games with the Jets, Poole notched 58 tackles, five deflections, an interceptions, and a touchdown.

Among the three players listed, Poole is the youngest of the group at 27-years-old. Given that, there is still room for growth in his game and he could possibly reach his potential with the 49ers.
