The edge rusher market has significantly slowed in its movement since many of the top options aside from Jadeveon Clowney have already signed new contracts. There are plenty of impactful remaining options for teams to pursue like Jabaal Sheard.
There likely won’t be much change in the market until Clowney makes his decision and the NFL Draft takes place. There are many layers to the potential unfolding of the landscape of this position dependent on the decision from the top available option.
It seems the Seahawks are already planning for the possibility of Clowney’s departure by signing Benson Mayowa. The lofty asking price Clowney has been seeking has complicated matters and possibly this pursuit could price himself out of returning to Seattle.
For available pass rushers like Sheard, the failure of teams in pursuit of Clowney will present opportunity. However, the upcoming NFL Draft could have an impact on the available landing spots and that’s why it may be some time until more movement at this position occurs.
Sheard appeared in 13 games last season and produced totals of 25 combined tackles (5.0 for loss), 4.5 sacks, and 9 QB hits. His numbers don’t necessarily jump off the page but the 31-year-old is still a productive defensive end that can bring a boost to a team.
With that being said, there are three teams that stand out as potential landing spots for Jabaal Sheard in free agency.
