3 potential linebacker targets for the Bears this offseason

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Preston Brown

If the Bears are looking for a low-costing and proven veteran in free agency, Preston Brown is a player that should be on their radar. Similarly to Ragland, Brown began his career with the Bills.

Altogether, Brown averaged a whopping 128 tackles in his first four seasons in Buffalo. Then, Brown would find himself with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2018, tallying 42 tackles and two interceptions in seven starts.

As for this season, Brown would spend eight games with the Bengals before being released. He would finish the season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Nevertheless, Brown is a tackling machine that can play in coverage when he’s asked to. Pairing Smith with a veteran like Brown could be beneficial for the Bears.
