3 potential offensive targets for the Panthers this offseason

Justin Herbert, QB

The Newton era is most likely over in Carolina. Kyle Allen had a few big moments in 2019 but it was clear that he is not the long term answer under center. This will be the most intriguing free agent class of quarterbacks in a long time but the Panthers are not a team that would benefit from a Philip Rivers or Tom Brady. Instead, they are a team that needs to get younger.

The Panthers hold the seventh pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. This is a prime position for them to select a quarterback. Joe Burrow is more than likely going first-overall and Tua Tagovailoa could end up in Miami. Other than those two, it is unknown where the rest of this deep class will end up. If Herbert is on the board at seven, the Panthers could have their new quarterback to go with their new head coach.

Herbert ended his career at Oregon as a four-year starter. His final game was a Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin. He is a big, strong armed quarterback with all the physical tools to be a star at the next level. Herbert put teams on high alert during his excellent Senior Bowl practices. The Panthers have young talent at receiver in Moore, McCaffrey in the back field, and they could complete the trifecta with Herbert at quarterback.
