3 prospects the Dolphins should target with the No. 5 pick in the NFL Draft

Linebacker, Isaiah Simmons, Clemson

If Isaiah Simmons is available at No. 5, the Dolphins may have no choice but to take this Clemson product. He’s a freak athlete who will make any defense he’s insterted into better.

The Dolphins have two young, up and coming linebacker in Jerome Baker and Raekwon McMillan, but neither possess the game changing ability that Simmons brings to the table. Last season, Simmons racked up 104 total tackles, 16.5 for a loss, eight sacks and three interceptions. That’s insane production across the board for a linebacker, if you can even call him that.

Simmons was only one of three players in the country to play at least 100 snaps on the line, in the box, in the slot and at free safety. According to Pro Football Focus, Simmons was the only one of those three to have any success in this swiss army knife role, as he finished with a 88.5 overall grade last season while the other two finished under 62.

He was also the only linebacker or safety to produce at least a grade of 80 against the run, rushing the passer, in coverage and when tackling ball carriers as well.

He has the potential to be a transcendent player in this league. There’s no way the Dolphins, or any team for that matter, should pass up on that kind of potential.
