Lack of preseason games will help the better, more veteran player
At this point in their careers, both these players would be considered veterans. So while the factor of no preseason games will not be as drastic as it will be with younger quarterbacks in the league, there will be a difference in the first few games of the season.
While Kirk Cousins is definitely a veteran in the league, he has played in nowhere near as many games as Aaron Rodgers. Cousins will enter the year with 88 games started since he was drafted in 2012. While this may seems like an impressive number at first glance, comparing this to Aaron Rodgers’ 174 games started since he entered the league in 2005 is a huge difference.
Rodgers has more than double the amount of starting experience than Cousins since both quarterbacks started playing and starting full-time. This will help Rodgers to have a better idea of what he needs to do to get ready for a season and be prepared from day one.
Cousins will not have a long learning curve this year, but it will be a game or two before he really hits his stride. And when trying to knock off a Hall of Fame level quarterback, every game matters.
