3. Drew Brees Needs Help One Last Time
There is a lot of speculation that Drew Brees could hang up his cleats for good after the disappointing first-round exit against the Vikings. But NFL Network’s Mike Garofalo recently said the Saints expect him to return. So if Brees does in fact return you have to beef up his receiver room right?
Michael Thomas was unbelievable last year and Jared Cook had a great year as well, but the Saints need to give their quarterback a legitimate number two option. Ted Ginn Jr. is a free agent and Tre’Quan Smith has been a disappointment thus far.
If the Saints are able to sign AJ Green to a modest contract then that would relieve a lot of the pressure that Thomas has to burden. The Saints can’t keep trodding Taysom Hill at wide receiver when they have long term plans for him under center.
The Saints would be smart to give Brees an accomplished receiver who knows how to get open when Thomas gets doubled. This will cut down on the number of coverage sacks that Brees has taken in the past.
