Better Than Alternative Options
Considering how the Jaguars weren’t in a position to select Jeffrey Okudah out of Ohio State, taking C.J. Henderson was an effective secondary option to address the cornerback position. It just so happens to also be at an area Jacksonville needed to address.
The immediate selections following the Jaguars’ pick of C.J. Henderson were mostly offensive tackles with some wide receiver prospects in the mix, too. The best player available for the No. 9 pick was likely Henderson and Jacksonville capitalized on it.
Even with selecting Henderson in the first round, the Jaguars managed to add talented receiver prospects at other positions. Going with the best player available ended up netting them an answer to a need.
It won’t be for some time until the Jaguars even have to think about re-signing Henderson, too. They won’t have to be one of those teams making a huge offer to a free agent cornerback to cover top option if he ends up panning out.
