Hard to Find a Shutdown CB
When an opportunity arises to be able to land a potential lockdown corner, it’s important to capitalize. That’s precisely what the Jaguars did by selecting C.J. Henderson with the No. 9 selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.
It’s especially difficult to find a shutdown corner after losing one you already had. After trading away Jalen Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams, the Jaguars were left with a difficult void to fill. That became even more difficult after deciding to trade A.J. Bouye, too.
Something to remember, the Jaguars had to use the No. 5 selection in the 2016 NFL Draft to be able to pick Jalen Ramsey. Additionally, it takes a massive contract to pry away a talent like Byron Jones or James Bradberry in free agency.
It’s likely going to be a challenge for the Jaguars to land any high-level free agents unless they were to grossly overpay them. That’s why turning ot the NFL Draft is such a logical and necessary tool to use in order to add a dynamic corner like Henderson.
