Charles holds All-Time NFL records
There is a career record Jamaal Charles holds all to himself among any other all-time great ballcarrier in NFL history. That is the most yards per carry. He finished his career averaging 5.4 yards per carry, which is higher than any other qualifying running back.
During Charles fifth NFL season he rushed for his 750th career carry. On the carry, he broke Jim Brown’s 5.22 yards per carry mark. Charles surpassed the mark that stood for 47 years as he averaged 5.82 yards per carry at that point in his career.
When a running back holds an all-time mark that puts him ahead of all the NFL greats, that is an automatic call to be enshrined. There is no way an NFL career record holder could not be enshrined as not having that player enshrined makes it difficult to tell the NFL story without that player.
In addition to the most yards per carry, he’s done a few other things that tops many greats. Charles still holds the record for most receiving touchdowns by a running back in a single game with four. He and Adrian Peterson are also the only running backs who had two 200-yard games where they averaged over 10 yards per carry.
