Taysom Hill will need a backup in 2021

It appears the Saints are planning to roll with Taysom Hill as their starting quarterback in the post-Brees era. From a pure depth chart standpoint, they are going to need to add a quarterback to the roster at some point to be his backup.

There are additional reasons to believe the Saints having a reliable backup is especially important with Hill as a starting quarterback. In addition to him being unproven in a larger role, there is the possibility his play style coupled with his injury history could be problematic.

Taking a quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft would enable the Saints to begin the development process before they need impact. That’s the best time for a team to be molding a player because it can be too late when it becomes an immediate need.
