3 reasons the Colts should pursue a trade for Lions QB Matthew Stafford

2. Stafford Is A Veteran, But Can Still Be Built Around

The Colts have been rumored to be a perfect landing spot for Philip Rivers this offseason, but Rivers is only wanting to play another season or two. Indianapolis cannot afford to spend big money on a quarterback that they can’t even build around for more than a couple years.

Stafford has the veteran presence that the Colts will be looking for, but he is only 32 years old. He still has a solid five or six years left at least.

Ballard isn’t going to move on from Brissett unless he has a clearly better option. Tom Brady would make more sense than Rivers should the Colts choose to go with an older quarterback, but Stafford still makes more sense. If they acquired him, Indianapolis would have a few years to build a roster that could compete with Stafford leading the way.
