Honestly, the Colts would not be moving on from Brissett at all if he had shown full confidence in himself in every situation. Unfortunately, when it came to crucial situations, he was simply unable to make the big play.
While there will be teams that the fans will get frustrated with Stafford trying to thread the needle, the Colts need a quarterback that embraces the moment. A game manager doesn’t usually win Super Bowls. Those honors go to a quarterback who knows how to win and makes the dangerous plays necessary to get the job done.
Stafford has a huge arm and great accuracy. He usually throws double-digit interceptions in a season, but that shouldn’t scare the Colts away.
Ballard should view Stafford as Plan A moving forward. Detroit may not end up dealing him, but the Colts should absolutely try to acquire him.
