New Age QB
The NFL is still a QBs league but just not the pocket-type anymore. While Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, and even Jameis Winston can put up Empire State Building-like numbers, it’s the young guys who can escape the pocket who has taken over here NFL. Look at the Super Bowl-winning quarterback and the NFL MVP as clear evidence. Having a quarterback who can zip-line passes into a tight situation is good but what happens when the pocket collapses and a play has to be made? As good as Brady, Brees, and Rodgers are, this is now coming to bite their respective teams in the butt. The Colts should have a similar mindset.
While Pat Mahomes is not the same type of runner that Lamar Jackson is, he can tuck the ball with the best of them. The same goes for Russell Wilson and even Carson Wentz. Times have changed in the NFL and with Hurts, he will fall into that category. For his collegiate career, Hurts gained 3274 yards on 614 attempts for 43 touchdowns. And yet, he still managed to pass for 9477 yards and 80 touchdowns while completing 65.1 percent of his passes.
Last season, Brissett gained 228 yards on 56 carries. While not bad, the offense needed and called for more with the injuries the Colts dealt with. With Marlon Mack hitting his stride, a backfield with Mack and Hurts could be as good as what they have in Baltimore with Jackson and Mark Ingram.
