Insurance
Not here to call Jacoby Brissett soft, but this is more along the lines of what if he doesn’t want to return or he stinks it up in 2020? While he played solid last season, there is still a chance he could pull the same thing that Blake Bortles did with the Jacksonville Jaguars. One good season, inks a big deal then proceeds to play his way out of town. So, taking Jalen Hurts with the 34th pick is not a bad insurance policy to have.
If Colts’ fans are still not sold on that choice, just think Andrew Luck or Jimmy Garoppolo. The Colts were thrown for a loop right before the 2019 season began when Luck announced his retirement out the blue. While that stung, it was the thought of entering a new season with the unknown. While Brissett did spend some time with the New England Patriots, Tom Brady was not the type to miss games, meaning that Brissett was untested. It was a gamble.
The Colts must make sure that they have other options in place in case something strange happens again. The offense will be healthy heading into Training Camp, but that still doesn’t mean that Brissett is the right guy to lead the team. Last season, he passed for 2942 yards and 18 touchdowns while completing 60.9 percent of his passes. He must do more.
