3 reasons the Jets should not hesitate to pay Jamal Adams

The New York Jets made headlines again as a result of Jamal Adams’ ongoing pursuit of a new contract. Neither side appears to be on the right page and a resolution is unlikely to occur in the near future.

According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the Jets’ contract talks reached a ‘stalemate’ with Adams after conducting multiple sets of talks since the 2020 NFL Draft. New York wants to wait to give him the star safety a new deal but he wants it prior to the start of the upcoming season.

New York does not intend to move Adams at this time but as Cimini also reported, the team has received trade interest from ‘more than half the teams in the league.’ Given how the contract extension has yet to reach the point of discussing money, the disconnect is something to monitor.

The Jets star has proven to be one of the game’s most versatile defensive players between his impact in run support, pass coverage, and as a pass rusher. While it’s not common for teams to feel comfortable about paying safeties big money, Adams is certainly on the list of being worthy.

With that being said, here are three reasons the New York Jets should not hesitate to give Jamal Adams a sizeable contract extension.
