2. He Does Not Need To Start Right Away
As stated earlier in the article, it was quite apparent that Miami is all in on this rebuilding process. It started when they hired head coach Brian Flores to a five-year deal instead of the standard three years. Along with that, we saw them rely heavily on veteran quarterback and longtime journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick is in contract with the Dolphins for one more year, only costing them $8 million. What has yet to be seen from Tua’s injury is how ready he will be when the combine comes around, and eventually the NFL Draft itself. His timeline is where a lot of the unknown lies with his overall stock.
But the Dolphins are in a perfect position to let him sit for a year, completely recover from his injury, and learn this offensive system. Getting into an NFL level recovery program and getting to prepare for his position as the franchise quarterback mentally for a year will be astronomically more beneficial for him and the team.
The Dolphins aren’t poised to make a run next year. He doesn’t need to jump in and be the almighty savior right away. Ensuring he is fully recovered and fully prepared going into the 2021 season will pay more dividends than rushing him into the starting role this coming season.
