3 reasons the Packers should avoid drafting a quarterback

The best options likely won’t be available

With the Packers holding the No. 30 selection in the NFL Draft, they won’t be in a favorable position to land one of the more talented quarterback prospects. By the time they are on the clock, surely Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, and possibly Jordan Love will be unavailable.

The most likely of the top four quarterbacks to fall to the Packers is Love and if that were to happen, it changes the situation. However, until that situation presents itself on draft night, the expectation shouldn’t be for that to happen and trading up is difficult to justify.

There is a clear drop-off in the projected ceiling for Love compared to the rest of the quarterback class that ranks outside of the top four. It wouldn’t be worthwhile to try to develop one of the lesser quarterbacks in this class unless they truly believe in one, but that type of prospect could be had later.

It’s unclear to outsiders where the Packers stand on their perceptions of the quarterback prospects outside of the consensus top four in this class. From my personal perspective, they would be better off trying to address other positions in the short-term than picking from that group.
