The LSU connection
If Joe Brady institutes the same offensive scheme in Carolina that he used during his time at LSU, Edwards-Helaire would fit right in. He literally ran Brady’s offense in college, so the familiarity will be there from the start.
In 2019, Edwards-Helaire racked up 1,867 scrimmage yards on just 270 total touches. His standout performance from last season was against the vaunted Alabama defense, where the LSU back found the end zone four times and racked up 180 total yards.
He may not have the size or elite speed you want in an NFL back, but his ability to read and react to the blocks in front of him are as polished as any back in this draft class. If Brady employs the same gap running scheme that LSU did while he was the passing game coordinator there, Edwards-Helaire will thrive.
