1. Recover from the Antonio Brown Debacle
The trade the Las Vegas Raiders made with the Pittsburgh Steelers to acquire Antonio Brown was seen as a move that could push them over the top. That obviously didn’t end up being the case given he never played a single down in Oakland.
Not only did the Raiders trade away a third-round pick (No. 66 overall) and a 2019 fifth-round pick (No. 141 overall), they even gave him a new contract. Brown agreed to a three-year, $50.125M contract that featured $30.125M in guaranteed money.
While Brown never saw any money from a deal that made him the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL at the time, it still showed the commitment the Raiders were making to add a dynamic receiver.
The need for the Raiders to acquire a dynamic receiving threat hasn’t changed. In fact, one could argue that it’s intensified given how the rest of the offense has mostly sorted itself out. Managing to add a player Odell Beckham Jr.’s caliber to be a No. 1 receiver would provide a real boost.
