Cam Newton may still be able to play, but he also may be spiraling downward in a big way. Injuries don’t play games and many stars have seen their careers end over smaller issues than Newton is dealing with.

Washington is not in a place where they can gamble on a player with major injury concerns. Rivera is hoping to build a championship culture for the Redskins. They can’t go through a situation where they trade for a veteran quarterback who doesn’t pan out.

Rivera may want his former starter back, but the Redskins should not cave in.
