3 reasons the Steelers are dark horse Super Bowl contenders

They have a championship caliber defense

Defense wins championships. Even in today’s league where the emphasis is clearly put on the offensive side of the ball, an elite defense goes a long way to bringing home a Lombardi Trophy.

Last season, the Steelers had one of the most talented defensive groups in football. T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward and Minkah Fitzpatrick all made the first team All Pro list, the most by a single team on the defensive side of the ball in 2019.

They had the fifth overall defense in terms of yards allowed in 2019, as well as leading the league in sacks (54) and takeaways (38). Aside from losing interior defensive lineman Javon Hargrave, essentially all of the key players on their defense will be back next season.

They’re a young, hungry group, so expect them to continue to play lights out in 2020.
