2. Brady isn’t enough to win a Super Bowl
While there was much talk about the 49ers needing more from Jimmy Garoppolo in the team’s Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, many seem to have forgotten how underwhelming Tom Brady was in the New England Patriots’ loss to the 9-7 Tennessee Titans.
Brady ended his performance completing just 20 of his 37 pass attempts for 209 yards, no touchdowns, 1 interception, and a 59.4 passer rating. When compared to his previous playoff performances, it was Brady’s fifth-worst single-game playoff passer rating.
Before the matchup even took place, FS1’s Bucky Brooks expressed his belief that Brady was ‘the worst quarterback in the playoffs’ and that’s why the Tennessee Titans would defeat the Patriots.
“Look, man. I don’t know why it’s taking y’all so long to come around to the fact that it’s over. It’s over for the Patriots. It’s over because their quarterback is the worst quarterback in the playoffs,” Brooks said Monday on FS1’s “Speak For Yourself. “Tom Brady is the worst quarterback in the playoffs. … Look, that Boogeyman that’s across the ring, he ain’t it. He ain’t the guy anymore. So that’s what it is. In the playoffs, it’s about quarterback play and when I look at the numbers — eight games under 60 completion percentage, 100 passer rating — Tom Brady, it’s over.”
While there is no denying the greatness Brady has achieved throughout his NFL career, there is a real basis to question whether he is enough to win a Super Bowl at his age. Let’s not forget, a further decline could occur as he continues to get older, too.
