2. There Could Be An Underappreciated Market
There are a lot of dominoes on the quarterback market this offseason, but stick with me here.
Prior to trading for Jimmy Garoppolo, the San Francisco 49ers were apparently set to court Cousins in free agency the following March as head coach Kyle Shanahan was looking to reunite with a quarterback he had in Washington. They can move on from Garoppolo this offseason fairly painlessly if they want to, but there would surely have to be an upgrade (real or perceived) available. That list is short, at least in theory, and may not necessarily include Cousins unless there are visions of what he can do behind a better offensive line in San Francisco.
There are a few other teams who could trade for the Vikings’ quarterback and absorb him right into ample cap space. The Indianapolis Colts, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Chargers, and Oakland Raiders are all likely to be in the market for a quarterback to some degree, and in balancing significant salary against no multi-year commitment they may have some interest in Cousins if he’s available.
