Connor McGovern
To the dismay of Rams fans across the globe, the team chose to let Rodger Saffold walk in free agency last offseason. As a result of his absence, Los Angeles’ offensive line spiraled downward in 2019.
Along with Saffold, John Sullivan was also let go by the Rams, with hopes that Brian Allen could fill the void at center. Nevertheless, it’s now safe to say Los Angels made a crucial mistake in doing so.
With this year’s draft class being thin at the interior offensive line, the Rams would be wise to scour the open market for a proven commodity. Entering free agency, Joe Thuney is going to be the most coveted interior linemen available.
While teams clamor for Thuney, the Rams could have an opportunity to get a bargain on Connor McGovern. After playing the right guard position for two seasons, McGovern made the transition to center in 2019 with the Broncos.
The former fifth-round pick started in all 16 games at center, allowing just one sack in 1,013 offensive snaps in 2019. There’s no doubt that the Rams could use McGovern’s versatility on the offensive line and possibly at a team-friendly price.
