The New York Jets are celebrating their first win of the Aaron Rodgers era. At this point, this is the biggest talking point for the team as they head into Week 3.
After waiting for well over a year, the trade from Rodgers is bearing at least some sort of return. However, there is more to unpack with the win.
Here’s a look at three major takeaways for the Jets after their win over the Tennessee Titans.
Braelon Allen might need more carries
Breece Hall is the unchallenged top running back for the Jets. There is no question there. However, Braelon Allen has played his way into the conversation following his breakout season with the Jets.
Allen earned two total touchdowns and had more yards per carry than Hall in Week 2. Hall has a death grip on the starting role, but Allen might be worth taking some of the workload. If nothing else, this could extend Hall’s health for the 2024 season and perhaps even farther into future years.
The Jets may have a luxury here. They should use it effectively.
Aaron Rodgers in driver’s seat to pass Brett Favre
Heading into the 2023 season, one of the key storylines was Rodgers’ opportunity to usurp his mentor Brett Favre. Favre threw for 22 touchdowns and 22 interceptions in his lone season with the Jets. Sixteen seasons later, Rodgers now has three touchdowns to one interception. If he keeps pace or even avoid games of throwing more interceptions than touchdowns, he will pass Favre handily.
However, if Rodgers instead wants to compare his production two seasons removed from the Packers to the same season as Favre, he still has plenty of work to do. Favre threw for 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions when he was with the Vikings in his second season away from Green Bay.
New York Jets match pace from 2023
Heading into Week 2 in 2024, the Jets were behind the pace set by Zach Wilson, as the Jets had won the infamous Week 1 game that ended Rodgers’ season last year. After two games, the 2024 Jets have gotten back on the same pace as last year.
Through two games in 2023, the Jets were 1-1. This year, the Jets have the same record at 1-1. Last season, the Jets hit a three-game losing streak after winning in Week 1, however. This gives the Jets an opportunity to pull away from their 2023 pace, and it’s all possible thanks to the win over the Titans.
