At least three NFL teams have shown interest in trading for Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson, according to Benjamin Allbright of KOA Colorado.
Allbright names the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills as the three squads that have expressed interest in Johnson.
The Bears have been rumored to be hesitant to sell off any pieces at the deadline after making doing so last season. However, if Chicago does receive a good enough offer for Johnson, it’s hard to imagine the front office saying no.
Johnson will be a free agent at the end of the year, and while the Bears are projected to have decent cap room, they have so many needs up and down their roster that they may not be able to retain him.
The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Utah, was selected by Chicago in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Since then, Johnson has established himself as one of the better cornerbacks in the league. He has never made a Pro Bowl, but he has widely been regarded as a solid defensive back and may even be a tad underrated given his lack of accolades.
However, it should be noted that Johnson has had some difficulty staying on the field. He has already missed a couple of games in 2023, and last year, he played in just 11 contests. As a matter of fact, Johnson has never played a full campaign since entering the NFL, topping out at 15 games in 2021.
The 49ers, Cowboys and Bills are all in need of a cornerback, with both Dallas and Buffalo in particular losing its top cornerbacks for the year due to injuries. Cowboys star Trevon Diggs tore his ACL, and Bills stalwart Tre’Davious White tore his Achilles.
Whether or not the Bears bite the bullet and move Jaylon Johnson remains to be seen. They have until Tuesday afternoon to decide.
Chicago fell to 2-6 with its loss to the Los Angeles Chargers this past Sunday. It will head on the road to take on the New Orleans Saints next weekend.
