Cleveland Browns
When it was apparent that Clowney was unlikely to return to Seattle, the Cleveland Browns emerged as a candidate to land the three-time Pro Bowler. First and foremost, the Browns possess the most cap space in the NFL at this moment, sitting at $40.6 million.
That is more than enough money to give Clowney a one-year deal worth around $17-18 million annually. At the same time, Cleveland might be a better fit than most people may think.
Regardless of everyone’s opinion of the Browns, they have plenty of talented pieces on both sides of the ball. As for the defense, they have Myles Garrett proving that he’s one of the premier edge defenders in the NFL.
The idea of playing alongside Garrett and getting a one-year deal that could pay him near what he was seeking could pique Clowney’s interest. For the Browns, landing Clowney on a one-year deal could give them a decent look to see how he fits in their defense. If he performs well, Cleveland could make him a long-term fixture of their defense next offseason.
