The current landscape of the NFL is difficult for Cam Newton to navigate and land an immediate starting quarterback job. Most teams already have one or could be selecting one in the upcoming NFL Draft.
As reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, there is a real chance that Newton will have to wait until much later in the year after a quarterback injury before signing with a team. Rapoport mentioned this being a possibility as late as August.
That may not end up being required for Newton depending on how the NFL Draft pans out. There are teams that could be seeking a particular quarterback prospect but end up striking out in their efforts to select them, perhaps shifting their focus elsewhere.
There are some teams that would make sense as a potential landing spot for Newton regardless of what takes place in the NFL Draft. Even if a given opportunity were for just the 2020 season, it would be advantageous for him to show teams he can stay healthy and reset his value.
There is still a lot to like about Newton when he’s healthy. He appeared in 14 games for the Carolina Panthers during the 2018 season and completed 320 of his 471 pass attempts (67.9% completion rate) for 3,395 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. He also contributed an average of 10.6 yards per carry.
With that being said, there are three teams that would benefit from taking a risk on Cam Newton.
