Philadelphia Eagles
Since entering the NFL in 2016 as the No. 2 pick in the draft, Carson Wentz has given the Philadelphia Eagles a reason to be excited about the future. Even though he didn’t get to play in the Super Bowl in 2018, Wentz was able to put Philadelphia in a position to win their first Lombardi trophy.
While he’s performed well when he’s on the field, the concern surrounding Wentz is his ability to stay on it. Over the past three seasons, Wentz has suffered an injury, sidelining him for eight regular-season games and five playoff games. However, his latest injury in last season’s playoffs was more of a freak-injury after a nasty helmet-to-helmet hit from Jadeveon Clowney.
Currently, the Eagles are going into the 2020 season with Nate Sudfeld and Kyle Lauletta as their backup quarterbacks. Neither of them have any starts under their belt.
Provided that, making Winston the backup to Wentz next season would give the Eagles some assurance behind their franchise quarterback. In addition, maybe Doug Pederson can help Winston develop further as a quarterback, setting him up for a bounce-back offseason in 2021.
