Los Angeles Chargers
There is a need for a long-term quarterback solution for the Los Angeles Chargers. They are currently expected to roll with Tyrod Taylor as the starter for the start of the 2020 season. That is almost certainly not going to translate to anything more than a stop-gap level of impact though.
With the Cincinnati Bengals taking Joe Burrow off the board, the next best option appears to be Tua Tagovailoa and the Chargers should look to move up to draft him. There is a chance the Miami Dolphins will look to select him at No. 5 and that’s one spot ahead of Los Angeles.
The New York Giants hold the No. 4 selection and don’t need a quarterback. It would make sense for both the Chargers and Giants to work on a trade that basically would allow Los Angeles to select Tagovailoa. Meanwhile, New York would be able to select the prospect they originally wanted.
The Chargers would be in a prime position to give Tagovailoa a season to develop as a backup while Taylor starts. Then they could transition the Alabama product into the full-time starting role in 2021 as they continue to build other parts of their roster.
