3 Teams Who Should Try To Trade For Seahawks WR DK Metcalf

The Seattle Seahawks shocked the football world on Tuesday when it was announced that they had agreed on a trade with the Denver Broncos centered around quarterback, Russell Wilson. It was a deal that really came out of nowhere, as the Seahawks and Wilson were seemingly working through whatever issues existed between the two sides. Now, there is speculation about DK Metcalf’s future in Seattle.

After Aaron Rodgers announced that he was staying with the Green Bay Packers, it seemed as if the Broncos would be shut out of the quarterback market once again. But, they were able to swing a deal for Wilson that looks like it was a steal for them.

Denver is sending out two first-round picks, two second-round picks and a fifth-round pick in 2022, along with Drew Lock, Shelby Harris and Noah Fant for Wilson and a fourth-round pick. This deal certainly shakes up the NFL landscape and could mean more moves are coming for Seattle.

Without Wilson under center, you can be sure teams are calling about the other talented players on the offense. One of those players would be DK Metcalf, who has been dominant in his three NFL seasons.

Plenty of teams need wide receiver help this offseason and should now be placing calls about Metcalf’s availability. Here are three teams who should try and trade for Metcalf.

3. Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have tried to reshape their wide receiver depth chart in recent years. They have spent a second-round pick and two first-round picks in the last three drafts on wide receivers.

In 2019, they selected J.J. Arcega-Whiteside in Round 2. In 2020, they used a first-round pick on Jalen Reagor. In 2021, they selected Heisman Trophy winner, DeVonta Smith. Smith is the only one that looks like he will stick around, as wide receiver remains a need.

So, why not right a wrong and go after Metcalf? Arcega-Whiteside was selected seven spots ahead of Metcalf in the 2019 NFL Draft. It is something Philadelphia, along with every other team that selected a wide receiver ahead of him, is regretting and would like a redo on.

With three first-round picks in this year’s draft, the Eagles can get aggressive with an offer for DK Metcalf and still have plenty of draft capital remaining.

2. Las Vegas Raiders

One of the biggest needs for the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason is at wide receiver. Following the arrest and subsequent release of Henry Ruggs III, the Raiders’ offense went a little haywire as they lost their downfield speed threat.

It put a lot more pressure on Hunter Renfrow, who had to carry the load with Darren Waller sidelined because of injury. Those are two solid weapons to start with and adding an impact outside receiver such as Metcalf to the mix would take this offense to another level.

Metcalf would demand attention from opposing defenses, opening up the short and intermediate routes for Renfrow and Waller to feast on. Given their unlucky nature in selecting prospects in recent years, the Raiders would likely be willing to part with some draft capital to land a true difference-maker.

With how loaded the AFC West offenses are looking, the Raiders need to keep up in the arms race and make an impact addition of their own.

1. New York Jets

With the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected quarterback Zach Wilson out of BYU. Heading into his second season in the league, it is now time to build up the roster around him.

New York started that process last season signing veterans Corey Davis and Keelan Cole while selecting Elijah Moore in the second round. While all of them are good in their roles, none are true No. 1 go-to receivers, at least not yet.

Adding someone like Metcalf to the mix would push them into more suitable roles. Metcalf would give Wilson that No. 1 receiver to help make the next step in his development. A big-bodied receiver that can pretty much win on any route is a luxury not many quarterbacks have, but if the Jets want Wilson to succeed, they will try and acquire.

New York has a ton of draft capital, some courtesy of the Seahawks from the Jamal Adams trade. Sending back their own picks in exchange for Metcalf should be something the Jets offer, doubling down on the sting of fleecing the Seahawks a few years ago.
