The Green Bay Packers made their first acquisition of NFL free agency. They signed former Cleveland Browns linebacker Christian Kirksey to a two-year, $16 million deal.

It was unlikely the Packers were going to be able to re-sign Blake Martinez, making it important to find a potential replacement. It appears they managed to do so in Kirksey as they compensation he received in his deal shows a real commitment from the team.

After being released by the Browns, Kirksey appeared to have somewhat of a competitive market building for his services. He visited teams including the Buffalo Bills, Las Vegas Raiders, and the Packers leading into the official start of free agency.
