3 Trade Targets The Bengals Must Consider Before Deadline

The Cincinnati Bengals have rebounded nicely after a rough start, winning two straight games to push their record to 3-3.

However, it’s obvious that the Bengals still have some work to do on their roster, especially in the competitive AFC North where they are currently in last place heading into Week 8.

Fortunately for Cincinnati, there is still time to add some pieces.

Here are three targets for the club to consider before the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.

Zach Ertz, Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals seem willing to deal off some pieces before the deadline, which is not surprising given that they are just 1-6.

A prime candidate to be moved is tight end Zach Ertz.

The Bengals are in need of a tight end, as Irv Smith Jr. has proven to be a bust of an acquisition thus far, and there is limited depth behind him.

Ertz will likely be the best player available at his position, and he would absolutely improve Cincinnati’s aerial attack.

We know Cincy has a terrific group of wide receivers that includes Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd. If the team is able to add someone like Ertz into the mix to open up the middle of the field for Joe Burrow, the Bengals’ passing game will become even more lethal.

Picking up Ertz would especially be crucial for Burrow this season, as he is still clearly not 100 percent due to calf issue. Those short completions to Ertz would be huge for Burrow.

Leonard Williams, New York Giants

Cincinnati’s defense ranks toward the bottom of the NFL at No. 27, and one of the biggest reasons for that is its lack of depth on the interior.

The Bengals are being gashed for 142.8 rushing yards per game, and adding someone like Leonard Williams would help rectify that problem.

Williams is in the final year of his deal with the Giants, who are just 2-5 and don’t appear to be going anywhere even after their Week 7 win over the Washington Commanders.

The 29-year-old’s production has dropped off in New York the last couple of years, so he can probably be had a for a mid-round draft pick if Cincinnati so desires.

Williams would comprise a pretty nice duo with his former Giants teammate BJ Hill up front.

Dalvin Cook, New York Jets

The Jets have flipped the script much like the Bengals. They began the season 1-3, but have won two games in a row to work themselves back into the AFC playoff picture.

However, Dalvin Cook has not been a part of that resurgence.

Cook, one of New York’s prized offseason additions, has only rushed for 109 yards while averaging 2.8 yards per carry this year and has been a non-factor as a receiver out of the backfield.

Did he suddenly just fall off? Or are the Jets simply not utilizing him properly?

Assuming it’s the latter (and it probably is), Cincinnati may want to take a look at him, as its rushing attack has not been great in 2023. Joe Mixon is logging just 3.8 yards per tote, and Cincy really doesn’t have a No. 2 back to pair with him.

Cook could take some pressure off of Mixon and could also provide a versatile weapon for the Bengals’ offense as a whole.
