3 Trade Targets the Dallas Cowboys Should Pursue

The Dallas Cowboys earned a well deserved win in their week 1 matchup against the Cleveland Browns in a game where both their offense and defense looked good. Arriving at the game having just signed a new contract extension, QB Dak Prescott had a decent game completing 19 of 32 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown.

The Cowboys have been busy in the past couple of weeks as they not only extended Prescott but also reached a four-year agreement with CeeDee Lamb. With two of their key players extended for multiple years, Dallas should now turn their attention to filling a couple of positions that are looking weak.

Harrison Bryant – Tight End – Las Vegas Raiders

One key position where Dallas could use some reinforcement is the tight end room. Dallas has suffered a bit of a setback with primary tight end Jake Fergusson suffering a bone bruise and an MCL sprain although it is nothing severe.

Backup tight end Luke Schoonmaker is still developing and he doesn’t have too much experience having been on the bench for most of his rookie year last season. As such, the Cowboys could look for a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders for their tight end Harrison Bryant.

Bryant is more or less a supplementary player for Vegas who already have rookie Brock Bowers from whom they are expecting big things. Furthermore, Vegas also has a solid backup in Michael Mayer who is another receiving tight end.

Elijah Moore – Wide Receiver – Cleveland Browns

While the Dak Prescott to CeeDee Lamb connection has proved to be one of the best in the league over the past few years, the Cowboys look to be short of a receiver. Brandin Cooks is next on the depth chart but his production has taken a hit in the past couple of seasons. Cooks is also 30 years old and it seems his best may be behind him.

The Dallas Cowboys could approach Cleveland for a trade involving Elijah Moore who has struggled to have a breakthrough year despite having been in the league for three seasons. Additionally, with Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy, and tight end David Njoku as the primary pass-catchers in Cleveland, Moore’s production may not see much rise with the Browns.

Dallas could use Moore as their No. 3 or even No. 2 receiver based on how well Cooks performs. In Week 1 against the Browns, Cooks caught just one pass for five yards.

Khalil Davis – Defensive Line – Houston Texans

The Cowboys’ defensive line is in need of an additional player, especially at the defensive tackle position. Despite being one of the better defensive units in the league, Micah Parsons remains a huge part of their success up front. However, the Cowboys expected big things from defensive tackle Mazi Smith last year but the 2023 rookie didn’t not deliver as per expectations.

In fact, Dallas seems to be experimenting with their best combination at the defensive tackle positions as apart from Odighizuwa, all others were rotated more or less evenly against the Browns.

Texans’ tackle, Khalil Davis is a player who could be considered by the Dallas Cowboys via trade to shore up the defensive line. The Texans already have a strong defensive line and have retained most of their players from last year. Houston may look to trade Davis if they are able to get a decent deal for him.
