3 under the radar free agency targets for the Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys were an erupting volcano throughout the 2020 season and they will need to make several adjustments if they hope to get back on track next season. The Cowboys, who finished the 2020 season with a 6-10 win loss record, will have some decisions to make this offseason.

One of those tough decisions is what they plan to do with quarterback Dak Prescott. Prescott has been the teams starting quarterback for five years and it’s looking unlikely that they’ll be able to franchise tag him again.

The Dallas Cowboys have a lot of missing holes, but in this article we’ll be focusing on the low key talent that could help claw Dallas back into playoff consideration. The Cowboys have what they need as far as talent is concerned, now they simply need to patch the holes.

Dallas needs to extend Dak Prescott this offseason, but they also need to get him some help on both sides of the ball. Here’s a look at three under the radar free agents the Cowboys should consider signing this offseason.

Jared Cook, Tight End

It’s hard to gauge the market value after he literally fumbled away the New Orleans Saints’ NFC Championship Game hopes in the playoffs this past season, but he could be a great asset to the Cowboys. The Cowboys need a tight end to compliment Blake Jarwin and Jared Cook could be that guy.

Cook, in 2020, hauled in 37 receptions, 504 receiving yards, 13.6 yards per reception, and seven receiving touchdowns. He also had to play with a variety of different quarterbacks throughout his tenure with the team as well, as he played with four quarterbacks during a two season span.

He could be a great player for the Cowboys to mold their offense around, despite them having a talented tight end in Blake Jarwin. Keep a look out for the Cowboys to sign Cook this offseason.

Jadeveon Clowney, EDGE

Jerry Jones is the king of extra opportunities and Jadeveon Clowney could be the next prospect to check off his list. For whatever reason, edge rushers when they get to Dallas seem to be able to revitalize their careers and we saw that with Aldon Smith this past season.

Clowney signed a one-year prove it deal with the Tennessee Titans this past season and all he proved was that the Titans made a bad decision to bring him aboard. He was limited to just eight games and racked up 19 tackles, four tackles for a loss, and zero sacks in 2020, but could look to turn his career around in a place like Dallas.

If the Cowboys are willing to take a chance on a player who was out of the league for four years, they should be willing to take a chance on a guy who has a ton of untapped potential. Clowney, a former number one overall draft pick, could be an under the radar signing by the Cowboys this offseason.

Josh Norman, Cornerback

There is no doubt that the Cowboys need some help in their secondary, and bringing in a cheap veteran cornerback could be a wise investment. Josh Norman could be a guy that could be on the radar for the Cowboys.

The addition of Josh Norman would not prevent the Cowboys from being able to draft a cornerback in the first round, as Norman would be brought in as veteran depth to develop the young talent surrounding him. Norman had a solid season with the Buffalo Bills in 2020, as he managed to rack up 24 tackles, four passes defended, and an interception that was returned for a touchdown in just nine games.

Adding Norman to the Cowboys would give the team a veteran presence to fall back on in case their young corners continue to slip up. Adding Norman would be one of the most under the radar signings the Cowboys could make this offseason.
