Adds Big Play Potential
There is significant value in having a receiving threat like Brandon Aiyuk capable of making explosive plays after the catch. Whether it’s with the run-pass option or screens, the 49ers added a playmaking threat that can thrive getting the ball quickly and in space.
There is already a clear blueprint for how an explosive playmaker can thrive in Kyle Shanahan’s offense by simply looking at Deebo Samuel. With the team’s high-level blocking execution and offensive creativity to get the ball to playmakers in space, Aiyuk should thrive.
Not having to rely on Samuel so much for these types of plays should help make the 49ers even more efficient offensively. They will be able to get even more creative with their approach since they now have multiple explosive playmakers.
While it remains to be seen if the 49ers will use this trait that Aiyuk possesses, he showed a great ability as a return man at Arizona State. It may be best to avoid using him in that role to avoid an increased injury risk, but it’s an option for San Francisco to use, nevertheless.
