The San Francisco 49ers managed to immediately add to their front-seven following the departure of DeForest Buckner using the NFL Draft. They selected former South Carolina defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw with the No. 14 pick.
It was important for the 49ers to come away with impactful players with their selections in the 2020 NFL Draft considering how they didn’t have many picks. They followed up their selection of Kinlaw with taking former Arizona State wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk at No. 25 to cap off the first round.
There is a lot to like about what Kinlaw brings to the table. He stands at 6-feet, 5-inches and weighs 324 pounds with 34 7/8″ arms and 10 1/2″ hands. He has truly impressive size, length, and strength that could develop into something special with a team like the 49ers.
During his final season with South Carolina, Kinlaw managed to total 35 combined tackles (six for loss) along with six sacks, two pass deflections, and two fumble recoveries. He also provided plenty of impactful contributions that didn’t show up in the stat sheet, too.
With that being said, there are three ways Javon Kinlaw can impact the 49ers as a rookie.
