3 WR Options The Las Vegas Raiders Should Pursue This Offseason

The Las Vegas Raiders made a surprise run to the postseason following the 2021 regular season and they will be looking to build off of that in 2022. The fact they were able to qualify for the postseason was remarkable given everything that they faced during the season.

Now, they will be looking to reach new heights with Josh McDaniels leading the way. McDaniels is regarded as one of the best offensive minds in the NFL and the Raiders will certainly benefit from the scheme that he will be implementing.

McDaniels has created some high-powered attacks with lackluster weapons, playing to the strengths of his players. The Raiders have some excellent building blocks offensively, but they could certainly use some help in the wide receiver room.

After Henry Ruggs III was released following a deadly car crash, the team’s passing offense was a little out of sync. Darren Waller’s injury didn’t help matters, but Hunter Renfrow emerged as an excellent chain mover.

If Las Vegas can add another dimension to the passing offense, things could really take off with Derek Carr under center. Who could the team target in free agency? Here are three wide receivers that would be great fits for the Raiders.

3. Marquez Valdes-Scantling

Without Henry Ruggs III in the lineup, the Raiders were missing a deep threat, someone who could take the top off of the defense. DeSean Jackson provided a little bit of spark but isn’t as electric as he once was.

Adding that element to the offense would help take the Raiders to another level. Nelson Agholor thrived in the role in 2020 and it is time to find another player to fill the role. There isn’t arguably a better deep threat available this offseason than Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

The Raiders may have some buyer’s remorse after Tyrell Williams didn’t exactly pan out, but Valdes-Scantling would be a perfect addition to this offense. He is a 6’5” burner that would open things up even more for Waller and Renfrow to work the middle of the field intermediately and in short-yardage.

Valdes-Scantling has some work to round out his entire game, but his 17.5 yards per reception average in his career shows all you need to know about how big of a deep threat he is.

2. D.J. Chark

If there is a team that loves speed, it is the Raiders. They have notoriously fallen in love with player’s 40-times at the NFL Combine despite questionable football skills. This is an offense that could use a burner at wide receiver and D.J. Chark could be the Raiders’ target.

Chark is 6’4” with legitimate 4.3 speed. With other established options around him, he could settle into the No. 3 role in the pecking order behind Waller and Renfrow. Zay Jones coming out of nowhere for the Raiders shows what they can do with receivers that need scenery change.

Injuries will scare some teams off, so if the Raiders are willing to show him a good amount of guaranteed money, they could land Chark. He has the athleticism to be a deep threat, but his route tree is a little more polished than other deep threats. If Las Vegas can toughen him up, they will have a player on their hands.

1. Devante Adams

Davante Adams is undoubtedly the best player hitting free agency this year. It would be a surprise if the Green Bay Packers even let him test the market, as the franchise tag is a possibility. But, given their messy salary cap, Adams could become available.

If that is the case, the Raiders need to aggressively pursue him. Building chemistry is important between a quarterback and wide receiver and Adams would already have that with Carr, as the two played collegiately together at Fresno State.

Adams won’t be cheap as he is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL. But, he is someone that would make a ton of sense for the Raiders. In need of an alpha, do it all No. 1 target, he would take this offense to another level of McDaniels as head coach.
