4 burning questions for the Arizona Cardinals entering training camp

Can Kyler Murray Take The Next Step?

The foundation Kyler Murray established for his NFL career as a rookie was quite impressive. While he didn’t end up leading the Cardinals to a significant amount of wins, he showed was impressive individually. Arizona will need him to take a step forward towards elite territory in 2020.

There was a real balance between Murray’s impact as a passer and on rushing attempts. He joined Cam Newton and Robert Griffin III as the only rookie quarterbacks to throw for over 3,000 yards and exceed 500 rushing yards in NFL history.

The Cardinals will need Murray to improve in a few areas including his ability to throw against pressure in the pocket, execution in the red-zone, and a reduction in avoidable hits. Those are all areas many young quarterbacks struggle with that usually require some time to iron out.

There is arguably nothing that helps a team consistently win more than an upper-tier quarterback. If Murray can take a step forward in his second season, there’s legitimate reason to believe the Cardinals can finish in a non-last place spot in the NFC West.
